The new doctor, Krishna Gopal Yadava, is employed to sit for 3 hours, 9.30-12.30p.m. This fluctuates according to numbers of patients. He has M.B.B.S. qualification. These are very low wages, we would like to pay them the going rate, but that would be a huge bill and make the clinic unviable. The new female nurse is also employed for 3 hours per day 6 days a week, Mon-Sat. She is greatly appreciated by all the patients and can administer medicines, injections and drips to the female patients. In India the women are very chaste and always covered, so it is a great relief for them to maintain modesty with the female nurse.
If the patient has no money at all we give prescribed medicines, treatment for free, otherwise we charge just 7Rs (7p). The intravenous drips are crucial life-saving equipment here, however, they are only given where there is critical need. We always use top quality medicine and the clinic’s reputation has spread 100s of kms as far as Agra and Jaipur. The medical company where we find top quality medicines had to increase their prices by 15% at the beginning of the year in line with huge petrol price hikes across India. However, they still honour our charitable endeavour by giving us a 40% discount. We would like to give tonic to the mothers and children here who are very poor and suffering malnutrition. However, at present, this is beyond our budget. It would cost only £10/ mth more to provide this service. The T>E>N>S machine is helping enormously with body pains that allopathic medicines cannot treat effectively such as arthritis. Many people come just for the use of the machine for a temporary relief from pain.
By moving the clinic inside the ashram buildings, we no longer have to pay out every month on rent and bills for 3 rooms. This has saved 3500 Rs/mth which we have given as an essential pay rise to the doctor (1000Rs more per month) and the remaining staff the 2500 split 4 ways. Our manager, Santosh Das from the ashram continues to work voluntarily, saving 3675 Rs/mth and so we can afford to continue.
It Is crucial that this service of free medicines be continued so your help with contribution to funding this life saving service is very much appreciated
